Release history 25.0
25.0.4
Enhancements
- Device Expiry:
- For unlicensed devices, we’ve improved the behavior to allow continued access to the device’s native functionality. Previously, an unlicensed device would prevent any login. Now, users can log in to the device for native features, but cannot access PaperCut-specific functions like Print Release and Integrated Scanning. [PO-3577]
- Administrators can now create new embedded devices even when an entitlement is not available. These devices will operate in an ‘Unlicensed Mode’, which still allows for the use of native device functionality. However, PaperCut-specific features such as Print Release, Integrated Scanning, and Card Self-Association will not be available in this mode. [PO-3608]
- Document Processing:
- Document Processing settings section, under Options > Capture. A new banner has been added to remind administrators that to make Document Processing scan actions visible on devices, they must also enable ‘Enable Document Processing Scan Actions’ on each device’s individual settings page. [PO-3423]
- When creating a scan action, if the required self-hosted Document Processing setup is incomplete, a new warning message is displayed. [PO-3421]
- Improved Document Processing system reliability and recovery. [PO-3590]
- Reporting: Significantly improved the performance of several built-in reports, including the ‘User - Shared Account Usage’ and ‘Department Usage’ reports. When you use complex filtering options, these reports now load much faster. [PO-3160]
- Web Print: For Windows now runs on a 64-bit architecture, which significantly improves rendering performance and reduces processing time. In addition, new checks have been implemented to ensure that password-protected or encrypted documents and those with printing restrictions are identified and blocked, preventing failed print jobs. [PIE-935]
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where the ‘Device Details’ page and other scan-related features would fail to load if the system.scan.ocr.mode advanced configuration key had an invalid or blank value. [PO-3560]
- Fixed an issue where the installation package for our Payment Gateway was updated to use a generic PaperCut logo, ensuring consistency across both PaperCut NG and PaperCut MF. [PO-3534]
- Fixed an issue where temporary scan job data was not automatically cleaned up from the mapdb database on the filesystem. Note: Any in-progress or pending scan jobs will be removed with this update. [PO-3527, PO-3509]
- Fixed an issue where disabling a device with Document Processing enabled would not release the license entitlement. [PO-3327]
- Fixed an issue where administrators with printer group restrictions could not access the ‘Jobs Pending Release’ page or the direct job release page. See known issue PO-3648 for more information.
- Fixed an issue that caused an error page to display when filtering the Printers or Devices pages in the Admin console by Alternative ID Number. See known issue PO-3690 for more information.
- Fixed an issue where attempting to upload a Not-For-Resale (NFR) or Trial license could fail and display an ‘Unable to resolve expression’ error. See known issue PO-3679 for more information.

New Features
Advanced Scanning
- Allows sysadmins to collect controlled and validated metadata directly at the MFD. This new capability significantly enhances workflow automation for document classification, routing, archiving, and integration with other business systems.
Please note: Deploying Advanced Scan Actions requires specific entitlements in your PaperCut MF license or subscription. For more details, contact your PaperCut Reseller.- Capture Detailed Information at the MFD: This new feature significantly enhances the data collection capabilities of Integrated Scanning. It allows System Administrators to configure highly customizable metadata fields directly at the MFD. This enables more granular and accurate categorization of scanned documents, improving organization and searchability for users, and providing sysadmins with greater control over data capture workflows.
- New field types: For comprehensive data capture at the device, including:
- Text and numeric input fields: For free-form text and numeric entry. Includes regular expression validation for text fields.
- List box dropdown: For pre-defined selections. Enables standardized data input.
- CSV data source lookup: Allows sysadmins to populate dropdown lists from external CSV files dynamically. Ideal for integrating with existing business data such as customer lists, project codes, cost centers, or client IDs.
- MF address book user lookup: Allows users to search and select other PaperCut users directly from the directory at the MFD. Simplifies workflows for tasks like direct email or scanning to another user’s home folder. [PO-119]
- Set mandatory fields: Administrators can define whether each metadata field is optional or mandatory for end-users.
- Advanced Scan to Fax Support for Linux environments: Added Advanced Scan to Fax for PaperCut MF installations on Linux servers. This allows Linux customers to configure and utilize API-based Advanced Scan to Fax actions in Linux-based deployments. [PO-2997]
Core infrastructure and security uplift
- Security: PaperCut NG/MF version 25 includes significant upgrades of several third-party dependencies, core dependencies and other improvements. [PO-2624, PO-2613, PO-803, PO-2800, PO-2802]
- New ZGC Garbage Collector: PaperCut NG/MF now utilizes the Z Garbage Collector (ZGC). This advanced garbage collector significantly reduces application pause times, even with very large memory heaps, leading to more consistent and responsive performance for your PaperCut environment. [PO-3250, PO-3454]
- Improved the display of currency signs and formatting for various regions. [PO-3520]
Database driver management
- Better visibility and alerts: The ‘About’ tab in the Admin Interface now displays database and driver versions to help with troubleshooting. Also includes in-product alerts for outdated driver detection. [PO-3092, PO-3089]
- Controlled updates: Updating to newer, endorsed drivers is a deliberate, manual step. This puts you in full control, especially for complex database setups. For all new v25 installs you’ll find these endorsed drivers packaged in [install dir]/repository/database-drivers/. [PO-2979]
Fixes
- Fixed an issue where users with Azure AD accounts and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled experienced a login loop and couldn’t log in to Mobile Release. [PO-3325]
